Quality art is hard.

This principle is what drives Cameron in all his creative work. Whether it is hauling a heavy pack to a backcountry alpine like, traversing harsh desert jeep trails, or spending weeks perfecting a single print, Cameron is always pushing the envelope in what can be accomplished in photography. His work, often featuring his home in the iconic American West, carries the timeless values of traditional printing into the modern era, fusing cutting-edge technology with historic printing processes to create truly unique works of art.

Cameron’s primary process, Platinum/Palladium on vellum over Gold, took months to perfect even at small sizes, breaking ground in what was possible to create breathtaking “illuminated landscapes.” Refusing to compromise between the clinical detail achievable with modern negatives and the inherent imperfections of handmade prints, Cameron works tirelessly in his home-made lab to refine his art. Each print, which can take up to four days to create, requires unmatched meticulousness at every step with no room for error. The attention to detail and artistic vision required to plan and create these illuminated landscapes by hand is what distinguishes Cameron as an artist.

His current project, “American Cathedral,” uses illuminated landscapes and corresponding iconic wildlife to evoke 15th Century illuminated manuscripts, highlighting how Manifest Destiny still characterizes the way Americans interact with their iconic landscapes.
